Jonnie is passionate about helping citizens and companies make sense of how emerging technologies like AI will shift civic, political, and economic norms. Oprah Winfrey called Jonnie’s life work “truly inspiring.” He has consulted with some of the largest corporations in the world including General Motors, Verizon, and Viacom, as well as with various governments including Canada, the UK, and the EU. His thoughts on the direction of AI research have been featured in IBM Think Leaders, PwC, and elsewhere.  
In 2018, Jonnie  became a researcher at the MIT Media Lab and Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society to study AI & Governence as part of their  Assembly cohort. He serves on the IEEE’s Working Group on a Standard for Child and Student Data Governance (IEEE P7004). Jonnie holds a first-class degree from the University of Cambridge and McGill University. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He enjoys last-minute travel, 8mm filmmaking, historical non-fiction, and producting experimental music.

As a teenager, Jonnie founded The Buried Life, a 1M+ member online community that asks, “What do you want to do before you die?” As part of this project, which became a television show that aired in 70 countries, Jonnie toured North America with Chance the Rapper, played basketball with President Obama, got interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, had a beer with Prince Harry, and helped numerous people from all walks of life accomplish meaningful lifelong dreams.
